Samantha Cornett

Samantha Cornett (born February 4 1991 in Deep River, Ontario) is a Canadian female professional squash player. She is currently ranked world number 34 in women’s squash. Her notable achievements include PAN American Junior Champion, Canadian Junior National Champion, Tasmanian Open Champion 2011, Guatemala Open Champion 2011. She was also part of the Canadian team which won the PAN AM Games Team Gold in 2011.

Sam recently received the 2012 ‘WSA Sportsmanship Award’ at the World Squash Awards for her positive attitude and dedication to fair play, both on and off the court.

Despite upholding Olympic ideals at heart, Sam has never had the opportunity to be an Olympian. Share her dream now and back the bid.

Squash is a very physically demanding sport and it’s also very spectator-friendly. The nature of the game means that it works really well—it’s fast and exciting—and it has all the qualities required to make it a great Olympic sport. I don’t know why it isn’t in already.

I think it’s really interesting that you can have a sport like squash which is so universal. You have it played in over 150 countries and people of all different shapes and sizes can play it. Each sport is different and has different properties. In rowing, if you’re not 6ft 5 it’s hard to compete, but squash can be played by everyone.
